Each of us has a deep desire for meaning, for love, and for happiness that is unending. We seek to fill our hearts in so many ways and with so many things, but ultimately, only God who is eternal can fill our need for an eternal love, for eternal happiness and the fullness of meaning and truth.
It is possible to know God, and to have a relationship with Him. In fact, that’s what God wants for you above anything. He created you, He loves you, and He knows you even better than you know yourself.
God the Father sent His Son Jesus into the world 2000 years ago so that we could meet God face to face. He also came to restore our relationship with the Father, which had been broken by sin. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, and his resurrection from the dead, sin has been defeated and it is possible for us to enter into a loving relationship with God.
When we become a Christian through the sacrament of Baptism, the grace of Jesus’ saving death and resurrection is given to us through the Holy Spirit and we become sons and daughters of God. Through other sacraments such as Confirmation, Reconciliation (or Confession), and the Eucharist, we continue to receive grace from God our Father to live a life of love for God and for our neighbour.
Jesus said in the Gospel of John: “I have come so that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (Jn 10:10)
We all experience pain, heartache, suffering and wounds in our lives. But Jesus – who died on the cross – came to heal our wounds, to redeem our suffering and to bring us fullness of life, both in this life, and in heaven for eternity.
