Catholic Cemeteries Tasmania (CCT) has been established to support parishes in the corporal work of mercy of burying the dead and the spiritual work of mercy of praying for the dead, giving witness to our faith, and our hope in the Resurrection. Acting on behalf of parishes, Catholic Cemeteries Tasmania (CCT) operates and maintains cemeteries and columbaria for the interment of the deceased faithful of the Archdiocese of Hobart and provides support and assistance to clergy in their pastoral engagement with these sacred sites.
As cemetery manager under the Act, the Roman Catholic Church Trust Corporation of the Archdiocese of Hobart is meeting its obligations through Catholic Cemeteries Tasmania (CCT), which functions as the central diocesan body tasked with the coordination of burial activity within the Archdiocese and operational compliance with the relevant ecclesial and civil ordinances.
Application for Burial
All burials within Tasmanian Catholic Cemeteries and Columbaria require an Application for Burial to be completed. Applications for Burial are received and processed within a 24-hour turn-a-round. Applications for Burial are normally lodged by the Funeral Directors on behalf of the families. The details on the Application for Burial are entered into the Archdiocesan cloud based digital cemetery management software Chronicle.

Application for Exclusive Right of Burial
An Application for Exclusive Right of Burial allows for the reservation of a plot/niche within our Tasmanian Catholic Cemeteries/Columbaria. The Exclusive Right of Burial allows the Right of Interment (ROI) Holder to acquire interment rights. When the holder acquires interment rights, the costs of perpetual care is included in the contracted price. The term ‘perpetual care’ means the cutting of grass on cemetery plot(s)/columbarium niche(s) at reasonable intervals, cleaning of the plot(s)/niche(s), basic garden maintenance, and any other such work as may be necessary to keep the property in presentable and accessible condition. ‘Perpetual care’ does not include maintenance or repair of any gravestones, monument structures or concrete foundations erected upon cemetery plots. Nor does it include maintenance of plantings provided by the cemetery plot holder or the cemetery plot holder’s family.
Application for Exclusive Right of Burial are responded to within a 24-hour turn-a-round, with the supply of an invoice for payment. The Application of Exclusive Right of Burial is not further processed until payment has been received. Upon payment Application of Exclusive Right of Burial are entered into the Archdiocesan cloud based digital cemetery management software Chronicle and a certificate is forwarded to the ROI Holder(s).

Chronicle is the Archdiocesan cloud based digital cemetery management software to view cemetery records and keep them accurate in conjunction with the cemetery manager.
The software solution easily manages the civil administration and record-keeping requirements including:
- Cemetery mapping which creates an accurate plot map where each plot has a unique ID relating to the electronic records.
- Exclusive right of burial to track and maintain plot ownership, manage interment exclusive right of burial and tenure.
- Online public access which enables cemetery visitors to independently access searchable information about their loved ones online including photos of cemetery headstones to each plot.
