Larmenier Kindergarten students explore faith and community

Kindergarten students from Larmenier Catholic Primary School recently stepped beyond the classroom to explore faith, community and caring for others during a visit to their local mission shop and St Peter’s Church in Youngtown.

The excursion gave the young students an opportunity to discover some of the many ways people contribute to and care for their community. At the mission shop, students learned about helping others and giving pre-loved items a new life, making connections with their learning about sustainability, recycling and responsible use of resources.

At St Peter’s Church, the children explored the church as a special place of prayer and worship. They observed its architecture and religious features, experienced the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the sacred space, and practised the respectful behaviour appropriate when visiting a church.

A highlight of the visit was spending time with Father Damien, who spoke with the children and helped them learn more about their parish church and its role within the Catholic community.

The students finished their visit by taking time to quietly observe their surroundings and draw their favourite features of the church.

The excursion provided a rich opportunity for the children to connect their learning with the world around them, developing their understanding of faith, belonging, service and care for our common home.
