‘Souper’ start for Young Apostles Society

By Wendy Shaw

A ‘winter soup night’ for young adults in the Launceston Parish has been hailed as a wonderful success.

The Young Apostles Society relaunch event at the Launceston Parish Pastoral Centre on 26 April was billed as a cozy evening sharing warm soup, fellowship and community.

Youth leader Geethu Rodrigues explained that the event aimed to welcome and connect young people in the parish community, especially newcomers and visitors. It also served as an opportunity to relaunch the Young Apostles Society (YAS) and introduce its vision and mission.

“Sharing a warm meal together created a relaxed and friendly environment where young people could get to know one another, build friendships and feel welcomed and included in parish life,” she said.

“The event was a wonderful success. The evening was filled with meaningful conversations, fellowship, and enthusiasm. The positive response was very encouraging and generated excitement for future gatherings.”

The mission of the Young Apostles Society is to provide a supportive community where young people in the Launceston Parish can grow in their Catholic faith, deepen their relationship with Christ and build strong friendships with one another.

“Through prayer, faith-sharing, service, and social activities, the group encourages young people to become active and engaged members of the church,” Geethu said.

“We warmly welcome all youth and young adults of Launceston Parish to join the Young Apostles Society.

“Whether you are new to the parish or have been part of the community for many years, you are invited to be part of this journey of faith, friendship, and service. We also humbly ask for your prayers for the youth of our parish and for the continued growth and success of this ministry.”

Launceston Parish assistant priest Fr Vinco Muriyadan was pleased with the positive response.

“It gives me great joy to see people coming back again to the Young Apostles Society, and to reorganise the group in a vibrant way,” Fr Vinco said.

“I am looking forward to growing with them in faith, fellowship and friendship.”

The Young Apostles Society meets on the fourth Sunday of the month for faith-based discussions, prayer and social activities. The next event is a movie night.
