Loreto Community Housing Sponsors Story Dog, Moni

Loreto Community Housing are proud to be sponsoring Moni the black labrador to take part in the Story Dogs Program, an initiative that supports primary school–aged children who need additional help with their reading journey.

Story Dogs creates a safe, supportive and non‑judgmental environment where children can build confidence in their reading skills. Each week, students take part in a 20‑minute one‑on‑one reading session with a trained volunteer and their dog.

Sessions are matched to each child’s reading level and suited to their needs. The calm presence of the dog helps children feel relaxed, supported and encouraged, making reading a positive experience. Books are carefully chosen to be engaging and enjoyable, helping to develop confidence.

Moni has been raised by Loreto Community Housing’s Maintenance Manager, Brad James, and his wife Susanne. Susanne volunteers alongside Moni and has completed the Story Dogs training. Both she and Moni are ready to support up to four students at John Paul II Catholic School in Rokeby throughout the school year.

“We are excited to support this wonderful program and look forward to seeing the positive impact Moni will have on young readers in the community,” said Cody Burdon, Loreto Community Housing CEO.

“John Paul II School’s Catholic values align closely with Loreto Community Housing’s own mission, making this partnership even more meaningful,” he added.
