KSC Knight of Honour Award

Br Justin Maguire (Deputy State Chair) presents Br Steve Coleman with the Knight of Honour Award. Also present (from right) Br Paul Jacques, Br Giuseppe Gigliotti and Br Glen McNamara. Absent Brothers: Eugene Holloway and John Shelverton.
On 18 April 2026 the State Council of the Knights of the Southern Cross (Tasmania) held their penultimate meeting in Ulverstone. The five North West representatives were physically present, while the two Southern representatives attended via teleconference.
At the conclusion of the meeting State Chairman Br Steve Coleman was awarded one of the Order’s highest honours—the Knight of Honour Award. At its previous meeting in February the State Council unanimously passed the following motion:
“In the opinion of KSC (Tas) State Council Brother Steve Coleman has given outstanding service to the Order in the State of Tasmania and as such confer upon him the Knight of Honour Award—Medal and miniature.”
Similar to other members of the Knights who have shown outstanding commitment and dedication to the Order he was also awarded Life Membership of the Order.
It was a poignant meeting as the State Council prepared the groundwork for the dissolution of the KSC Tasmanian Order. The current plan sees all active Branches being dissolved by 8 June this year. This will allow for funds to be transferred to the State Council. All remaining KSC (Tas) funds will then be transferred into the KSC Priestly Formation Trust Fund that has been established with the Archdiocese of Hobart and jointly signed by Archbishop Tony Ireland and State Chairman Steve Coleman.
KSC Tasmania will have its final meeting as a Special General Meeting at Southern Cross Care Glenara Lakes Lifestyle Village Complex in Launceston on 20 June 2026. It was a fitting location for the Tasmanian Knights to have their final meeting, as it was their foresight and labour that led to the foundation and development of Southern Cross Care in Tasmania in 1972. The sole business at the meeting will be voting to dissolve the KSC (Tas).
Approximately 10 members of the Tasmanian Knights have chosen to remain connected to the Order by becoming remote members of the Victorian KSC.
