Esteban Cox has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of Southern Cross Care Tasmania after more than two years in the role.

His final day was 6 March.

In a statement, Mr Cox said: “I am immensely proud to have worked alongside the Southern Cross Care Tasmania team to deliver compassionate, respectful care to the older people we support each and every day.

“After careful consideration, the time has come for me to step aside to pursue new opportunities.

“As Southern Cross Care Tasmania enters its next phase, refreshed leadership and an outward-looking vision will support the organisation to achieve its strategic goals.”

When his appointment was announced in November 2023, Southern Cross Care posted that Mr Cox had “extensive experience in business management across various community sectors including aged care, primary healthcare and disability. Mr Cox worked for the last two and a half decades in both Australia and overseas in a range of multinational organisations primarily focussed on the provision of health-care services”.

He served on the board of Southern Cross Care for nine months before his appointment.

Chair of Southern Cross Care, Sonya Beyers, thanked Mr Cox for his leadership, compassion and commitment over the past two years.

“Esteban has made an enormous contribution during his time at Southern Cross Care,” Ms Beyers said.

“His key achievements include implementing the Readiness of Reform Project in preparation for the new Aged Care Act, overseeing the delivery of the Voluntary Enforceable Undertaking, and leading positive cultural change across the organisation.”
