Speaker to bring passionate faith to sixth Evangelium Conference

By Catherine Sheehan
International Catholic speaker and author, Jonathan Doyle, has shared his passion for the Catholic faith with half a million people around the world. He is looking forward to bringing this passion to Tasmanians at the sixth Evangelium Conference to be held on Saturday 9 August at St Aloysius Senior Campus in Huntingfield.
This will be the last Evangelium Conference hosted by Archbishop Julian as Archbishop of Hobart.
“If I have any skill at all, it’s probably the ability to take complex philosophical and theological principles and make them engaging and accessible for a wide audience,” Jonathan said.
“Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said something along the lines of, ‘The Catholic Church has the greatest product in the world with the worst marketing department’.
“Having been privileged to both experience personally and study seriously the Catholic Church’s message for the world, I have been blessed to share my passion for that message with more than half a million people around the world.”
Jonathan is a speaker, author, businessman and executive coach who has spoken to international audiences on topics including Catholic education, Catholic charism and identity, leadership, teacher wellbeing, and resilience peak performance.
As keynote speaker at this year’s Evangelium Conference, Jonathan will deliver presentations on ‘Taking the Gospel to the World’, ‘Catholic understanding of the human person’, and ‘Christian manhood’.
“There is so much anger, addiction, and relationship breakdown all around us,” he said. “People need the Gospel. People need Jesus. It’s that simple. Jesus alone transforms the human person and the world.
“My sense is that despite the vast blessings of modernity—from penicillin to flushing toilets—the promise of a secular utopia is rapidly becoming the emperor with no clothes.
“A vast AI-driven technocracy and consumerist distraction is simply not going to meet the essential desires of the human person for truth, beauty, goodness, and freedom. I am also very convinced that so many people are hurting.”
For the faithful, understanding what it means to be a human person from the Catholic perspective is vital, Jonathan said.
“Almost every issue—from economics to gender, from euthanasia to geopolitics—can ultimately be reduced to questions about what is proposed as good for the human person. How do we think people should live? What would make us happy?
“You cannot adequately answer these questions without first having an accurate model of what a person actually is. The truth about the human person, after the truth about the nature of God, is the most important question for the world.”
On the topic of Christian manhood, he admits that many men are struggling with certain issues, however, the Catholic faith provides answers and hope.
“We hear much about toxic masculinity in our media, and it’s also fair to say that the impact of pornography and fatherlessness has been seismic for many men.
“There is, however, good news. Authentic manhood is radically simple in its essence, even if it’s harder to live out in practice.
“The Catholic Church offers a vast array of role models and a sacramental life that can make it possible to become a man after God’s own heart. No matter what has happened in a man’s life, God is never finished writing his story.”
Jonathan’s wife Karen, also a Catholic speaker, will present a workshop at the Evangelium Conference on ‘Respectful Relationships and Consent Education for Today’s Youth’.
Other presenters at the Conference include Director of Youth Evangelisation, Darcy Rogers, Catholic Experience Specialist with Alpha Australia, Barb Conlon, and University Chaplaincy Coordinator, Daniel de la Motte.
Music will be performed by singer-songwriter Stephen Kirk, and there will be times for prayer and Eucharistic Adoration.
An early bird rate to attend the Evangelium Conference for $35 which includes all day catering is available until 26 July.
