Fresh outlook for church windows

By Wendy Shaw
Two stained-glass windows in the Nun’s Chapel have been restored to their former glory under a program of upgrades at the Church of the Apostles in Launceston.
Hans Wanders, the chairman of the Launceston Parish’s Finance, Building and Maintenance Committee, has welcomed the completion of this stage of the work.
“After nearly 12 months, the old protective coverings, which had gone opaque and were damaging our valuable stained-glass windows, have been replaced by protective glass,” Mr Wanders said.

“Two of the windows, located in the Nun’s Chapel, had to be completely restored before the glass could be placed over them. These windows have come up beautifully thanks to the craftsmen at Original Stained Glass.”
The total cost of the project was about $110,000, with support from the Tasmanian Government through the Built Heritage Grants Scheme, parishioner donations and donations held by the National Trust.
Donations are still welcome. To donate via electronic banking, please contact the Launceston Parish Office or place a donation in an envelope marked Stained Glass in the Launceston Parish offertory collection basket. Tax receipts are available upon request.
