Newly arrived Sister ready to learn and excited for mission

Having recently arrived from Vietnam, Sister Maria Hat has joined her community of Sisters based in New Norfolk and is excited to contribute to the mission of the Church in Tasmania.
A fully professed religious with the Congregation of the Lovers of the Holy Cross Qui Nhon, Sr Maria has been a Sister for 10 years, and was first inspired by those who served in her community from a young age.
“I was deeply impressed by how kind, talented, and joyful they were. I admired their dedication and service to others, and I began to wish that I could be like them one day – serving joyfully, playing music, and making a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
This initial desire, Sr Maria explained, though simple, was the seed that God planted in her heart, nourished by the support of those around her.
Her experience of the life of the Sisters, both in prayer and action, motivated and inspired her to join the Congregation herself, and continue to guide her in her vocation.
“Being a religious sister in the Lovers of the Holy Cross of Qui Nhon brings me immense joy and peace.
“I love the opportunity to serve and connect with people from all walks of life – whether it’s children, the elderly, or those in my parish community.
“Of course, like any vocation, religious life has its ups and down – times of joy and times of struggle. But through it all, I feel God’s presence as a loving Father who cares for me in every circumstance.
“God’s love gives me strength and motivation to serve others with passion and generosity. I hope that everyone I encounter will experience the joy and love that comes from my vocation and that we can all grow closer to God together.
The Congregation of the Lovers of the Holy Cross has 65 communities in Vietnam, with many others serving overseas.
“I am grateful that my Superior chose to send me to Hobart, and I look forward to continuing our mission in this new place.
“Everything is still very new to me, but I am happy to be here – the fresh air, the friendly people, and the beautiful scenery make it a wonderful place to live.
“I am also excited to contribute to the mission of the Hobart Archdiocese by visiting and helping the elderly, taking care of their spiritual well-being, assisting the parish priest, and participating in the life of the Church in Tasmania.”
Sr Maria’s arrival has not been without challenges, as she explained that she needs to improve her English.
“I am working hard to learn more. I also need to understand the local culture better so that I can connect more easily with the community,” she said.
“I am confident that with time and effort, I will be able to overcome these challenges and add more love and beauty to this place.”
Along with serving the Vietnamese community in Tasmania, Sr Maria hopes to assist the Archdiocese in any way possible.
“I hope that my presence with my sisters in our community will bring renewed vitality to the Archdiocese, through our dedicated prayer for the diocese, active involvement, and most importantly, our witness of communal life that reflects God’s love.”
