Fr Mark Freeman appointed as new Chancellor

Fr Mark Freeman, current Parish Priest at Bellerive-Lindisfarne, has been appointed by Archbishop Julian as the new Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Hobart.

He will replace Fr Terry Rush who, after many years in the role, submitted his resignation last year after reaching 75 years of age, as required under Canon Law.

Fr Mark said he was “happy” to accept the role of Chancellor and that he hoped to bring to the role “wisdom” gained from his 39 years as a priest and 12 years as Vicar General of the Archdiocese, serving under two bishops.

As Chancellor, Fr Mark will be one of the trustees of the Roman Catholic Trust Corporation of the Archdiocese of Hobart, and will oversee the administrative aspect of the life of the diocese as the Bishop’s delegate. This will include attending regular chancery and Finance Council meetings.

Fr Mark grew up in Launceston and has served as a priest in numerous parishes around the state including the West Coast, Mersey-Leven, South Hobart and the Huon Valley.
