Conference aims to empower Catholics to evangelise

A national evangelisation conference hosted by the Australian Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry will be held online from 20-22 October.

The ‘Evangelise’ conference aims to ‘empower Catholics to carry forward the Church’s evangelising mission after the second assembly of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia’.

The Hobart Archdiocese will host one of the plenary sessions with a presentation by Archbishop Julian.

The three-day conference will include informative presentations, Q&A sessions and discussions around encountering Christ, disciple formation and mission.

Dr Christine Wood, Director of the Office of Evangelisation and Catechesis, will be one of the main presenters.

Chair of the Australian Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry, Archbishop Christopher Prowse, said he was excited about the opportunities the conference would provide.

“This conference for evangelisation will highlight the interconnection of the missionary call of each baptised person and dynamic faith communities in fulfilling the Church’s mission to evangelise,” he said.

“Local communities are encouraged to host gatherings to be a part of the conference dialogue.”

While the event can be attended online for $25 per person, the Archdiocese of Hobart will be streaming the conference at three locations around the state at no cost, with participants free to attend any or all of the sessions.

Streaming sessions will be held in Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone across all three days at the Archdiocesan Centre (35 Tower Road, New Town), Emmanuel Centre (123 Abbott St, Newstead) and Sacred Heart Presbytery (4 Alexandra Rd, Ulverstone) respectively.

The conference times are as follows:

Thursday 20 October: 5pm – 8pm

Friday 21 October: 9am – 8pm

Saturday 22 October: 9am – 5pm

Those intending to participate in person are encouraged to bring a plate to share.

Registration is not required to join a local hub.
