Mary happy returns as parish marks faith-filled birthday

A special birthday party took place at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Bridgewater, on 8 September.

About 100 people gathered for the faith-filled occasion to celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the rosary, a healing talk and holy Mass.

Fr Leodigario Zenarosa (MLCC), explained that it was the first time the Bridgewater-Brighton Parish had celebrated the birthday.

“By celebrating the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we try our best to evangelise people through our little devotion in the parish,” Fr Leo said afterwards.

“It is a way to introduce Jesus and God, through Mother Mary. That is the rationale of why we do it. Our parish community is a Marian community. We love the Blessed Virgin Mary because we really come to know Jesus through prayers for the Blessed Virgin Mary and the life of Mary.”

Fr Leo described the attendance as ‘a good start’ and an encouraging basis for holding the event again next year.

He added that the parish was also looking forward to celebrating St Joseph on 8 December, the final day of the Year of St Joseph. Pope Francis declared the year to mark the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St Joseph as patron of the Universal Church.

Other special events coming up in the Bridgewater-Brighton Parish include a Marian Festival at St Paul’s Church on 30 October from 7pm and a series of Christmas Novena Masses at St Paul’s from 15 to 24 December.
