Palavra Viva Community

The Palavra Viva (‘Living Word’) Community was established in Brazil in the 1970s. The community is not a religious institute, but is made up of Priests, married and single lay people, as well as celibate consecrated women who make promises of poverty, chastity and obedience. Archbishop Porteous invited six consecrated women from Palavra Viva to Tasmania in 2017.

The community was in residence at the Emmanuel Centre in Launceston until late 2020. The community is expected to return to Tasmania to focus on the mission of evangelisation, including working in Parishes and with youth, and provide ministry to the university student population in the north of the state.
