New principal appointments in Tasmania’s Catholic schools - Shayne Kidd, St Thomas More’s Catholic School in Newstead

The values of the founders of St Thomas More’s Catholic School at Newstead - the Sisters of St Joseph - are alive and well in the school today, according to principal Shayne Kidd.

He praised the school’s staff for their dedication as faith imparters and educators and for continuing the strong and faithful traditions of the founding sisters.

“Faith is the human value and ethos that is definitely felt throughout the school,” he said.

“It is not just one-dimensional but in all the little things. We are here to serve this community and to nourish all the children and the community through our faith.”

Born in Sydney, Mr Kidd has more than 21 years of educational experience. He began his career in Sydney as a Catholic primary school teacher before moving to work at Daly River, 220km from Darwin in the Northern Territory.

Since then, he has taught in New Zealand, China and Indonesia.

This is his first time working in Tasmania, but not the first time he has visited, travelling to Tasmania with his wife Tracey on their honeymoon, and their second honeymoon.

“We kept promising our kids we would bring them, and now we have moved here.”
