New principal appointments in Tasmania’s Catholic schools - Gregg Sharman, St Brigid’s Catholic School in Wynyard

“As principal of St Brigid's Catholic School, it is a real honour to serve a community I've been heavily entrenched in for many years,” said Gregg Sharman, principal of St Brigid’s in Wynyard.

Mr Sharman is in his 18th year of teaching at Catholic schools in Tasmania. In 2012 he served at St Brigid's in Wynyard as assistant principal, before taking on the role of principal at St Peter Chanel Catholic School in Smithton from 2013-17. Now he is back at St Brigid’s.

“As a young man, despite not living in the town due to work or study, I had always travelled back to play sport for the local cricket and football teams.

“Through attending school and growing up in the region, I've established many strong relationships in the town. I am now able to combine all my passions in Catholic education, passion for the Wynyard community, including my own family and my own personal growth.”

“For each of the staff and students, it is obvious the person of Jesus is the focus for the school community,” he said.

Mr Sharman’s family's history runs deep at St Brigid's. His grandfather attended the school in the first few years of its establishment, along with his seven siblings. His mother and her five siblings attended the school. His brothers attended the school and he was confirmed at St Brigid’s Church.
