Meet the Youth Evangelisation team

Director – Sam Clear

Born on Flinders Island in Bass Strait and educated here in Tasmania, Sam is no stranger to the Catholic scene.

Holding a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he has served for six years as a full time missionary with Youth Mission Team Australia and worked as Managing Director of Harvest Inroads – the youth and young adult mission division of Harvest Pilgrimages – for four years.

His work has also involved student reflection and staff professional development day facilitation for the past ten years.

Sam is also a published author and documentary producer, with a love of adventure, which notably includes his famous 15,600km walk through 23 countries over 19 months while praying for the complete unity of the church.

Through his role, he hopes to create and provide an atmosphere in which young people can encounter faith and deepen their understanding, as well as build a sense of community.

Pastoral Support Officer – Heather Excell

A Hobart local with a deep knowledge of the Archdiocese, Heather works in the Pastoral team supporting Sam in the Office of Youth Evangelisation.

With a background in Applied Design (specialising in Graphic Design), she is also passionate about the faith and loves to both deepen and share it with others.

That passion, coupled with her technical background has her seeing her role in the Archdiocese as a perfect combination of two of the things she loves.

She loves seeing others come alive in their faith and hopes to use her skills to contribute to the Church as best she can.

She enjoys Italian food, craft projects, watersports, hiking, bushwalking, enjoying all that nature has to offer and is currently on the way to attaining her private pilot’s licence.
