Mary’s Grange has cared for the elderly since 1957, when it originally provided accommodation for 20 ladies. A further extension in 1958 included a chapel and six single rooms. In the early 1970’s the current facility was built and since then it has been upgraded and expanded.

In 1990 the East Wing floors were renovated and upgraded. In 2004 Mary Potter Wing comprising of 23 low care beds was built. In 2011 Butler Wing was renovated providing large private rooms with ensuite facilities.

The Home has 108 licensed beds being a combination of high and low permanent care. It has a dedicated dementia specific wing and it also provides Respite Care for temporary care needs.

Mary’s Grange was the first nursing home in Tasmania to be awarded Community Aged Care Packages by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Currently we have 28 packages which are provided to clients to enable them to continue to live in their own home involving a whole host of support services. Outreach also manages health and wellbeing classes of various exercise and fitness programs for the community.

Mary’s Grange Independent Living Units are located at 26 Channel Highway, Taroona.

In 2002, 20, two and three bedroom villas were constructed and occupied. Since then, adjoining properties have been purchased with the view of building additional villas/apartments. Plans have been drawn up and Kingborough Council has given approval to build a further 44 apartments plus a swimming pool.  

The project is divided into four stages. Stage 1 comprising of 6 apartments was completed in January 2011. Stage 2 is currently under construction with an anticipated completion date of June 2012. Stage 3 and stage 4 are yet to be scheduled.

The apartments are modern, spacious comprising of 2 or 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, balconies and some with excellent views of the River Derwent.
