The Treasure that is Maryknoll

The Church in Tasmania has an unassuming treasure just a short drive south of Hobart. The first thing you may notice at Maryknoll is the glorious view. What a sight as you look across the houses and beach of Blackmans Bay!

The complex is on a fabulous site, and consists of a chapel, meeting room, a library, a lounge room, kitchen, dining room, bathrooms, lots of bedroom and three self-contained hermitages. There is a lovely garden with meandering walks and in the garden there are some separate accommodation options, the hermitages.

Sr Margaret Henderson RSM co-ordinates a team of ten staff in total who keep the premises spotless, organise resources and provide meals for retreats and conferences. They are kept busy with bookings year round from schools, Catholic groups and various denominations, particularly the Anglican Church. Some individuals also book into the hermitages for self-directed retreats.

There are regular spiritual talks, retreat and reflection days held by the Centre itself as well as other events which use their facilities. All is available at modest cost.

Originally a holiday home for the Presentation Sisters, we are much the richer that the Sisters share the treasure of Maryknoll with the wider population.

Maryknoll Retreat and Spirituality Centre is located at 15 Home Avenue Blackmans Bay.
