Brian Nichols born in Queenstown, Tasmania, is the son of Ina and the late Tasman Nichols.

His elder married brother John has lived for many years in London and his married twin sister Beth lives in Noosa, Queensland.

Brian received his primary education at St Joseph’s school in Queenstown and his secondary education at Savio College in Hobart. He began his studies for the priesthood at Corpus Christi seminary in Melbourne in 1974 and was ordained a priest by Archbishop Young in St Mary’s Cathedral, Hobart, on 27th August, 1980. After serving as assistant priest at Glenorchy he began studies in Rome at the Pontifical Institute for Liturgy (San Anselmo) from 1985 until 1988.

He then served in the parishes of Bellerive and Bridgewater-Brighton before accepting an invitation from the Bishops of Queensland to be involved in the formation of seminarians at Pius XII seminary in Brisbane and to teach Liturgy at the Brisbane College of Theology. On returning from Brisbane he was appointed Administrator of St Mary’s Cathedral in Hobart, a post he held for the thirteen years. He is currently the Parish Priest of Sandy Bay.

Fr Brian is a member of the Consultors and the Council of Priests and is the Vocations Director for the Archdiocese. He is also a member of Societas Liturgica, an international ecumenical body formed for the promotion of the Liturgy and chaplain to the Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem.

He is also a member of the staff of Catholic Theological College in Melbourne where he teaches in the area of Systematic Theology (History and Theology of Sacred Orders and Liturgical Theology).
